I am a firm believer that no one other than the leader and or leaders of an organization can write the About Us Page. This page is often overlooked for whatever reason, I blame the “website guys” of the world. While your “website guy” should be aware of a few details, 80% of the success of About US page comes from your story.
The easiest way to think about the About Us Page is thinking about meeting someone for the first time. Whether it be a potential romantic partner, a friend introducing you to someone new, a prospect or a plain old stranger. You want to present yourself or your company in the best light. Be interesting- in what you do and why you do it.
Pitch your story, where you’ve been, what you’ve done, why you do it and why you’re the one. What makes you, you- and share that with people. Simultaneously, showing that you’re a good person that is successful, likable and relatable.
At some point or another, a transition should happen where they begin to speak and they do the same. Taking interest in them.
Now, would you want someone other than yourself doing this job for you? I didn’t think so.
So tell me a little about yourself and company ?
When thought about in this fashion everything we’re looking for will flow, naturally. Your message will reflect your personality and be genuine to who you are. Your story will be unique, interesting and emotional because you’re being human. People reading it will learn more about you and will connect with your company. Additionally, this message will be straight to the point and avoid industry jargon. Constrained optimization, whoopee shit, no one cares . That type of communication is not going to get people to trust, respect, or have confidence in you. Do tell them about your product or service and the problem you solve.
If you’re anything like me, it may be easier to record your message via a voice recorder or video. Play the file back and make adjustments. When it comes time to write, your job will be a breeze.
